**The giveaway is now closed. Thanks to all who entered!**
Hmm… This blog has been up and running for nearly 2 months – and I’ve been really enjoying writing it. So today I’m very pleased and excited to have my first giveaway
To one lucky reader I will send a a beautiful set of 4 Ladybird coasters donated by Dani from The Literary Gift Company PLUS a copy of any book I have reviewed here on Playing by the book.
To be in with a chance of winning please take a look around The Literary Gift Company – you’ll find loads of lovely gift ideas there for you and other book lovers you might know – and leave a comment here at the bottom of this post stating which of the books I’ve reviewed you’d like to win and read. If you have a blog or website a link back to Playing by the book will gain you an extra entry into the giveaway.
Please leave a comment by 6am (UK time) Wednesday 30 September and I’ll announce the winner (randomly selected) later that day. This giveaway is open to all, worldwide

I may be too late for the giveaway (I never have been good at remembering time zones) but I had to tell you that I LOVE your site! It is so wonderful to see the creative activities you have done with each book and I got so carried away reading your past posts I will be late for work if I’m not careful! I especially enjoyed discovering “Katie and the Sunflowers” and have added this one to my wish list for my classroom. I’ll definitely be back to explore more!
September 23rd, 2009 @ 12:42 pm
Thanks for the encouraging comment! You’re not too late at all – the giveaway runs for a week and so next Wednesday I’ll announce the winner – Good luck!
September 23rd, 2009 @ 1:10 pm
Wonderful idea – a gift site for book lovers. I can see the ‘banned books bracelet’ being a great present (and conversation starter) for my sister. I also crave the ‘ladybird’ cake tin although I must confess in my house it would contain shop bought biscuits or chocolate!
I like your book reviews and T’wit T’woo sounds a wonderful way to send my little seven month boy to bed with sweet dreams.
Ali at Mindful Mum
p.s. my favourite lady bird book was the ‘princess and the pea’. When I was four I used to beg my big sister to read it too me, when she said no I would torture her by making up a story to the pictures as I couldn’t read.
September 23rd, 2009 @ 1:23 pm
Hi Ali,
It’s funny you mention the banned books bracelet – I’ve just been reading about Banned Books Week which is about to start over in the US:

I see I was a week ahead of myself this morning – glad it is only the 23rd and not the 30th! I couldn’t help telling everyone about your site today, and I also posted about it on my blog: http://laundryontheline.wordpress.com/2009/09/23/happy-to-be-a-book-worm/
Thanks for sharing so much wonderful literature and all of your creative ideas!

What a fab comp and your blog is a lovely read. I became a collector of Ladybird books after my mother in law passed her own collection on to me.
That was a couple of years ago – and the collection totaled just over 400 books. With the help of my children and a lot of memory work we have now managed to amass nearly 2000 books!
We love it! Sunday mornings routing through boxes at car boot sales are one of our all time favourite pass times!

Thanks for the mention of my sewing guest post on NTFFC!
Your blog is fabulous. I think my daughter and I will be crafting our own whales, thanks to your great whale craft idea. (We’re also London-bound next month and were already planning a Natural History Museum visits; this makes it all the better!)
September 28th, 2009 @ 12:58 pm
If you’re going to the Natural History Museum *slight sigh of envy….* you might also enjoy our dino related activities -

I love your blog, hope I am in time!!
September 29th, 2009 @ 10:05 am
Believe it or not neither boys are much into dinosaurs, but I like the sound of the hat book – Millies Marvelous Hats. Currently they are heavily in to The Wind in the willows, we have read all the books and a freind has given us an old VHS tape of the series and they love it. We have moved on to Beatrix potter. I like how you link activities to the books.
September 29th, 2009 @ 8:33 pm
Those coasters bring back so many childhood memories! Bookmarking that site for Christmas presents definitely.
I just adore this blog, both the inspiration it provides and the obvious enthusiasm you and your lovely children have for books. Halibut Jackson would be my choice, it sounds great.
