The perfect distraction…

Posted on | March 11, 2010 | 6 Comments

Just look what came this morning…

… two brand new bookcases!

My husband and I ordered them for each other as a joint birthday and Christmas present and they are finally here. Now my fingers are itching to start filling them (and removing the piles and PILES of books we have of every available surface around the house). All this to say, forgive me if I don’t manage another post this week – I’m sure, as fellow book lovers, you understand how these empty bookcases are just too much of a distraction!

Oh, wouldn’t it be fun to fill those lovely shelves? Do you have a system in mind for arranging? I started out all sincere about alphabetical by author, then realized the top shelves held most of the favorite books that kids like to sit with, and now, it’s if-it-stays-on-the-shelf-instead-of-on-the-floor-i-am-happy system :)

Looking forward to the “after” pictures!

Hi Sheela, Yes, there will be some systems and no doubt sub-systems! (at least for a couple of weeks, and then it will be our favourite system – random). I started this morning and I’ve already filled more than half the shelves and I haven’t even cleared all other surfaces of books yet…

Oh they look beautiful and even more so when they’re filled! Have fun filling them.
I dream of having a house big enough to actually have a library room … wouldn’t it be heaven?

    Hello Aloi,

I’m afraid you will be proven right about not having enough shelf space even now… (it didn’t help that I treated us to a selection of books from of various wishlists to celebrate the arrival of the bookcases!)

    Hi Ashley,
I’m so happy that our lounge ie gradually resembling a library – it’s a smallish room at least for a lounge (about4x3m) and it now has about 30metres of shelf space. It makes the room quite dark, but also cozy. I’d just like to get a couple more pictures up on the wall now!
