Thursday March 7 is World Book Day, and I can’t wait!
So what is World Book Day? Well, it’s a UNESCO designated worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. Now in its 16th year, World Book Day aims to ensure as many children as possible explore the pleasures of books and reading, so you can see why I’m so keen on it.
Here in the UK, school children are entitled to receive a World Book Day £1 Book Token (or equivalent €1.50 Book Token in Ireland) to exchange for a FREE £1 World Book Day book (or it can be redeemed against any book or audio book costing £2.99 or more at a participating bookshop or book club).
World Book Day is a perfect excuse to do something fun around books. I’ll definitely be watching The Biggest Book Show on Earth but maybe you’ll find the perfect activity for your family or class in NurtureStore’s 50 ideas for World Book Day, or perhaps you might prefer to get creative in the kitchen and create a dish inspired by your family’s favourite book, and enter it into my Edible Book Festival.
Whatever you do, why not enter the competition I have for you today – to win an entire set of the World Book Day books:
All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning is leave a comment on this post!
Please note:
*Tweet about the competition, perhaps using this text: Win a complete set of @worldbookdayUK books over at @playbythebook’s blog http://www.playingbythebook.net/?p=24420
*Follow @worldbookdayuk on twitter
For any of these to count, you must leave a separate comment on this blog post for each extra entry.
Good luck!

fabulous competition! I have two real bookworms in this family so it would be nice to keep them busy for a while – I think they have read every kids book that our local library stocks so they would LOVE some new reads. xxx

What an inspiring day for encouraging reading for pleasure! As a school we shall have all our book nooks engaged and have encouraged parents to send in pictures of their children enjoying a book in a nook. I have even been inspired to make and bring in some edible books to enjoy as part of this special day. Thanks a lot for all the wonderful ideas and the 23 reasons to read poster…. Just brilliant!!!
