World Book Day!

Posted on | March 7, 2013 | 13 Comments

Today is World Book Day, my very favourite sort of day!

It started with M heading off to school dressed as Pippi Longstocking (or rather Pippl Langkous, the Dutch Pippi)…

Then I enjoyed the Biggest Book Show on Earth with Tony Robinson, Shirley Hughes, Liz Pichon, Cathy Cassidy and lots of others. If you missed it you can watch it on demand here.

I made myself a special lunch to celebrate the day…

… yep, edible bookshelves filled with edible books (cheese and cucumber sandwiches with the bread wrapped round the filling rather than two slices either side, and chocolate books with rice paper covers).

Then I went in to school to do a storytelling session based around Cuckoo! by Fiona Roberton and whilst there… I got offered my dream job! Yes, as from after Easter, I shall be employed as a “librarian” at J’s school. Can you believe it? What an amazing thing to happen on World Book Day! I couldn’t imagine a BETTER day! Anyway, whilst this amazing news is still sinking in to my brain…

I’m now I’m rounding of the day with announcing the winner of my competition to win a complete set of World Book Day books… and the winner is… Stephanie from Storybramble

Congratulations to Stephanie – please look out for an email from me!

Now, there’s just time to enjoy reading some books aloud to the girls before World book Day is over for another year (this for M and this for J). How have you been celebrating today?

A great day all round. M makes a fab Pippl- looks so grown up! (but then I suppose being responsible for your own horse, house and monkey will do that to a girl)

Big congratulations! So well deserved, too. x

PS: you must have been very hungry by the time you’d crafted that lunch…

Wonderful, Zoe! Congratulations of the job. Yes, the perfect day to be offered a job like that.

Pippi Longstocking is adorable. What did your younger one dress up as?

I’ve posted about World Book Day too, although it doesn’t get celebrated here. A bit of nostalgia from when I was in the UK. :)
