Gorgeous book-themed stationery giveaway!

bookIsland_logoBook Island is one of those publishing houses I always make a point of checking out. They specialise in picture books in translation, with a focus on especially beautifully illustrated, high-quality books that can be enjoyed and treasured by both parents and children of all ages, not just the younger readers and listeners who are often deemed the typical picture book audience.

Book Island as a company is relatively young – it was founded in 2012 by Belgian-born translator Greet Pauwelijn – and whilst it started life out in New Zealand, I’m really thrilled that Book Island has now relocated to the UK, bringing their eye-catching books to a bigger readership.

Some of their books I especially love, and have reviewed on my blog, include:

  • Sammy and the Skyscraper Sandwich by Pieter Gaudesaboos and Lorraine Francis
  • Azizi and the Little Blue Bird written by Laïla Koubaa, illustrated by Mattias De Leeuw and translated by David Colmer
  • The Lion and the Bird by Marianne Dubuc, translated by Sarah Ardizzone
  • bookislandselection

I’ve also interviewed one of the illustrators Book Island champions, Kaatje Vermeire, whose work you can see in Maia and What Matters (written by Tine Mortier, translated by award winning David Colmer) and also The Big Question (written by by Leen van den Berg and translated once more by David Colmer).

To celebrate and welcome the arrival of Book Island to these shores, I’m delighted I’ve got a very pretty giveaway for you today. You could win the selection below of brand new postcards (and one greetings card) featuring several of the illustrators Book Island publish.

These cards aren’t available anywhere to buy and are high quality prints, so you could even frame them and enjoy them on your wall.

Just leave a comment on this blog post, and on 14 June at 6pm I’ll draw one winner to receive the bundle (picture below).

    The giveaway is open worldwide

Again, all you need to do is leave a comment on this blog post to enter, and entries are welcome from across the globe!

On the evening of June 14 I’ll post the winner’s name on this blog post as an update, and also email them to arrange delivery.

If you enter the giveaway, I’d really appreciate it if you could spread the word about the giveaway. For example, you could tweet something like: Easy peasy worldwide giveaway of postcards by children’s book illustrators http://www.playingbythebook.net/2016/06/07/gorgeous-book-themed-stationery-giveaway/. If you tell me you’ve shared, you can leave another comment as a second entry to the giveaway.

Good luck! And do join me in welcoming Book Island to the UK 🙂 You can follow them on Twitter @BookIslandBooks or find them on Facebook.
