A giveaway – celebrating 30 years of The Jolly Postman

posted in: Giveaways | 71

I’m very lucky in having a series of brilliant postmen and women who deliver marvellous parcels to me rather often, but none of them are quite like The Jolly Postman, who has been delivering cards and letters to various fairy-tale characters for 30 years now!

The sheer fun and delight of this book, with its openable envelopes and apparently handwritten letters to some of our favourite story characters never fails to delight – and 30 years after its first publication it is still packed with wonder and smiles and surprises.

When I was a Brownie I wrote letters and asked various ‘important’ people to send a postcard with a message to me so that I could get my collectors badge. My favourite out of the many I received was from the Governor of The Falkland Islands as I told him my dad had spent many months at a time over there helping to rebuild the airport after the Falklands War. I got my postcard in an envelope with a personal letter saying how grateful he was to my dad and the other men who had helped in the rebuilding and knew that I must have missed him a lot when he was away. He also sent a photo of the finished airport to show how good it all looked. Now as a mum I appreciate the time and effort he took to reply to a little girl who ended up getting her badge. Now my daughter is starting Brownies and the cycle goes on.

I loved this book as a child and it would be great to share the story with my 3 girls. The eldest two love opening letters/cards/parcels – especially if they are meant for me!

Thanks for the chance 🙂 x
