Hello all,

As promised, we’re into the New Year, and with a revamped Playing by the book it’s time for a giveaway… πŸ™‚

Here’s the deal:

  • You can win one copy of the book of your choice from any of those that I’ve reviewed here on Playing by the book.
  • I will also donate the cost of the book (rounded up to the nearest 10 pounds) to the book charity of your choice – I’ve got a list of book charities here, and if you don’t know which one to choose, I will donate the money to The Book Bus. This charity works in Zambia, where I was born.
  • To enter the giveaway simply leave a comment on this post stating which book (of those I’ve reviewed) you’d like to win and what charity you’d like to support if you’d like to support a specific charity other than The Book Bus.

  • The giveaway is open worldwide.
  • The giveaway closes Saturday 23 January 6am UK time. I’ll announce the winner (randomly selected) later that day.
  • The following actions will each gain you an extra entry to the giveaway if you let me know about them:
    *Tweeting about this giveaway/this site.
*Linking back to this giveaway/site on your own blog.
  • The giveaway include books mentioned in the Fantastic Fiction for Kids series EXCEPT for books which are out of print or rare.
  • To leave a comment click on “Comments” just below the title of this post.

Whether you’re a loyal and much appreciated regular reader, you’ve arrived here via the Comment Challenge 2010 or found your way here via some other interesting route, Good Luck!

If The Arrival, by Shaun Tan, is included I’d love to enter (I’m an immigrant too). Any charity of your choice would be fine. πŸ™‚

      Thanks for the giveaway!

Great giveaway, Zoe. Thanks for posting it at Fish for a Free Book!

      All the best,

I’d love to win Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish for my boy and would like to see a donation go to Bag Books.

    4. Mystica

Would also like Dinosaur for my boy for my littlest nephew and I would go with your Book Bus charity which sounds awesome.

Oh, dare I hope for ‘Whose garden is it?’ by Mary Ann Hoberman? I won ‘A house is a home for me’ from Vintage books my kid loves, and it totally floored me. So I am keeping my finger crossed for this one.

I checked out your list of book related charities, but I was not familiar with any so I think the Book Bus will be a good choice. I had been hoping to see Pratham, or Eklavya, both of which work in India.

“Tickle the Duck” for the little one!
I don’t know any of the Australian charities so go for one that you know do wonderful things. I will blog it.

On that note can I put in a blog request. Could you write a blog on a book(s) that your little one is currently enjoying. I’m looking for book ideas for the coming birthday.

Thanks for visiting my blog! I’m adding you to my feed reader. I’d love to win Fannie in the Kitchen and you can choose the charity.

I’d like to win The Arrival by Shaun Tan. My chosen charity is the National Literacy Trust. Thank you for this giveaway xx

When I did a long-term substitute position in a 4th/5th grade classroom, those kids LOVED the Redwall series (Brian Jacques) that you talked about in your fiction post this week. Many of them were reading various books in the series and actually rereading them for the 2nd or 3rd time. I guess he can’t write fast enough. So, I would love to win that book so that I can keep up with what kids love! πŸ™‚ Also, love the idea that you are donating to a charity. Great idea!

We’re excited about Box of Tricks/Magic Box… we found it at our library, but would love to own it.

And the Book Bus sounds like a great charity. We help support a missionary family in Zambia, so this charity jumps out to me.

Thanks for your generosity! And thanks for sharing your fun experiences with books!

Hello! “If Not for the Cat” by Jack Prelutsky is still on our lists of wants and needs, so that is our choice once again. I’m not familiar with very many charities on your list, particularly the Book Bus. Sounds like a good option, and thanks for the list.

Hello Zoe, what a wonderful giveaway, thanks for hosting this!
We would like to donate to Book Bus should we win; and the book my daughter would like the most is Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert. We hope to plant some bulbs soon and this one looks like it’s full of inspiration! I’ve tweeted your giveaway tonight πŸ™‚

    13. Rebecca

Thanks for such an amazing giveaway! I would love to have Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert to read to my students. I teach 4- and 5-year-olds and I know they would love it. I would like to donate to either Book Bus or to First Book. Thank you!

I came over from SMS and read your post about kids books about sewing and quilting. Pockets by Jennifer Armstrong sounds wonderful. I’ll have to check our library for it. My children love to create and my oldest (a boy) has started to sew so this was an interesting post. I can’t really think of any books we have that are really about sewing. Thank you for posting this list!

Hi Zoe – I was very excited to find your comments on my blog Emmy’s Book of the Day. Your site is absolutely wonderful and I am eager to become a regular reader. Giveaways are so much fun and I hope to start some on my blog very soon. I am very interested in the book How to Catch a Star. Emmy is always asking questions about stars. I LOVE the project that you did with the girls! So inspiring. The Book Bus sounds like a wonderful charity. So glad to have connected with you! – Amy

As a mom of two little bookworms and one not-quite-there-yet little one, I am very excited to enter! πŸ™‚
