Looking for inspiration? Kidlit themed TED talks

posted in: Jarrett J. Krosoczka | 5

Over the next two weeks I’m changing the programme here on Playing by the book. Every few days I’ll be highlighting a TED talk with a link to children’s literature or literacy. I hope these talks will inspire you as they have me in preparing for a new year and new adventures in children’s books.

First up is a TEDx talk by American author and illustrator Jarrett J. Krosoczka. Korsoczka has written ten picture books and eight graphic novels, including his widely applauded. award winning Lunch Lady series, which chronicle the adventures of a crime fighting dinner lady. However, even if you don’t know his books (I didn’t when I first watched this film), I’m pretty sure you’ll find this talk worth watching.

In Imagining Beyond Your Circumstances Krosoczka tells us how imagination and the encouragement to pursue artistic expression transformed his life. He’s very engaging and full of enthusiasm. Watching his TEDx talk will definitely improve your day.

I’d love to hear what you thought of this talk, how it made you feel… so as everm the comments are open and waiting for especially for you 🙂

Hi Loll, Library Mice and Lynne,

Yes, I know I’m trying to spend less time on the computer over Christmas, but then if you’re going to spend some time on it, it might as well be high quality, and I think the TED talks I’ve found really are thought provoking and/or inspirational – perfect for getting into gear for next year!
