Opening day at the International Edible Book Festival

posted in: Bruce Ingman | 40

It’s with great pleasure I open the virtual doors on the gallery of entries to this year’s International Edible Book Festival, in honour of Hooray for Bread by Allan Ahlberg and Bruce Ingman.

In total there were 61 entries from 5 different continents! Click on any image below to see a full, large image, including the title of the book which inspired the entry (this is definitely the best way to view the edible books!). Once you’ve clicked on an image you can scroll through all the entries. Please note there are 4 pages of entries – don’t miss those that aren’t on the first page.

I really hope you enjoy perusing the entries and don’t forget to come back on Thursday 28 March to find out who the festival patron, illustrator Bruce Ingman names as this year’s three winners. Here’s a reminder of what is up for grabs:

  • 1st prize – A signed sketch by Bruce Ingman, plus a copy each of Hooray for Bread, The Runaway Dinner and Previously, all signed by both author and illustrator, Allan Ahlberg and Bruce Ingman

  • 2nd Prize – A copy each of Hooray for Bread, The Runaway Dinner, Previously and The Pencil, all signed by both author and illustrator, Allan Ahlberg and Bruce Ingman

  • 3rd Prize – A copy of Hooray for Bread signed by both Allan Ahlberg and Bruce Ingman

  • On Thursday 28th March, I’ll be hosting a linkup for anyone who has submitted an edible book and who wants to write about it on their blog, to share their posts. The linky will be up for a couple of weeks so you’ll have plenty of time to add the link to your post sharing you experience of making an edible book.

THANK YOU everyone who took part and who spread the word about the festival. It makes me very happy indeed to see so many people having fun with their books!

The various ingredients of George’s Marvellous Medicine and Lola’s Pink Drink are somehow stuck in my head still 🙂

They are fantastic! So creative and they look delicious. Some of my favourites are the Lola and Pippi cake and the cake with all the sheep on it. Good luck everyone. Will check back in to see the winners.

Excellent edible treasures in this competition I would hate to be the judge for this! If I did have to choose a favorite book it would have to be entry no. 54 and 55. 54 because its simple but effective and 55 because its really imaginative!!! WELL DONE EVERYONE!!!

All the cakes are fantastic and well done to everybody who contributed! Very difficult choices for the judges!

I think all the cakes look great! I think that number 10 (Piglet) is my favourite – he has real character and each section has been so carefully made; I also like number 8 – the ‘hair’ has a great shape. Really well done, everyone!

I’ve heard that the winners are being chosen tomorrow, so well done to everyone who entered!!! 😀 They are all so amazing and detailed, I wouldn’t be able to pick a winner!
If I had to choose ONE, it would have to be… probably entry no. 10- very realistic and detailed. Also I love the way it’s sitting on a book, and the flower makes him look so small! Once again, well done to everyone who entered, and GOOD LUCK!!! 🙂 😀 🙂

It has to be no.10 for me…….because I feel certain it tastes as scrumptious as it looks!
And pink is a super colour, nearest to most humans’ skins. Pigs are said to be the nearest animal to human beings as they are very intelligent. Winston Churchill was fond of his pet pig………
